I said I had no New Year’s resolutions, but I changed my mind. My resolution is to have softer feet. No, I’m serious. My feet could normally grate a head of lettuce, and that’s just not right for my age (or any age, I guess). I piddle with a chintzy pumice stone in the bath sometimes, but not until I lotioned them up (okay, call DHR b/c I had Gav lotion them up for me…what a sick mom I am, no?) the other night did I see the mega difference. So, there. That’s my resolution…softer feet.
I don’t know about you, but I’ll sleep better at night.
Hey, so still no babies. I think, if the doc allowed, I’d carry these pups well past my due date. What is it with my uterus? Kids love that place. I told you Gav was two weeks past his uterine expiration date. Gab went right to her due date on the dot. I figured with two in there, they’d be fighting to get out. But, nope. They’re forcing an eviction upon themselves. Man, they’re gonna be pissed.
I go in tomorrow for another check-up. We’ll talk seriously about whether to get this show on the road this Friday or Saturday. Eeks, scary. I’ve told you how I prefer things such as this to just be sprung on me. Having it planned gives me way too much worry time. I’ll keep you posted.
So, what have I been doing in these last days as a mom of two? Oh, very important tasks such as creating my hospital iPod ‘push those babies out’ music list. Go ahead and lose all musical respect for me because it’s not quite an original eclectic mix. I have some guilty pleasure songs that burned up the radio for a while that I secretly listen to on repeat. So, I made a list of anything I’ve caught myself looping and belting out in the car. (and, let me tell you, it drives gav freakin’ bonkers…i sometimes get hooked on a song and will play the ever livin’ shiznit out of it, “MOOOOMMMMM, PLEASE, NOT AGAIN!!”…i can’t imagine what sorts of damage i’m doing to this kid)
Like to see my list?
1) Lost Without U – Robin Thicke – The Evolution of Robin Thicke (Deluxe Edition)
2) No One – Alicia Keys – As I Am
3) Hurts So Bad - John Legend – Live at S.O.B.’s – New York City
4) A Change Is Gonna Come - Leela James – A Change Is Gonna Come
5) And So It Goes – Billy Joel – Greatest Hits, Vol. 3
6) 1 2 3 4 – Feist – The Reminder
7) Marry Me – Martin Sexton - Seeds
8 ) Fidelity – Regina Spektor – Begin To Hope
9) It Ain’t Me, Babe – Joaquin Phoenix & Reese Witherspoon – Walk The Line Soundtrack
10) It Ain’t Me, Babe – Bob Dylan – The Ultimate Collection
11) The Times They Are A-Changin’ – Bob Dylan - The Ultimate Collection
12) Hot Child In The City – Nick Gilder – Entertainment Weekly: The Greatest Hits: 1978
13) A Case Of You – Joni Mitchell – Blue
14) Mr. Blue Sky – ELO – Eternal Sunshine Soundtrack
15) Starfish & Coffee – Prince & THE N.P.G. – One Night Alone…Live !!
Let’s see. Numbers 1 and 2 are or have been large on main stream radio. But, I love them anyway. I love singing them and looking like a fool for neighboring drivers. I have no problem with that. And, Alicia Keys is just the cutest thing ever in my book. Meow.
Number 3: I picked this one up at the library. (will i be arrested for admitting that i check out cd’s from the library and rip them to my computer? if so, then i totally do not do that.) He was going by John Stephens at the time. I haven’t taken the time to check into why he changed his name, although I do remember a fair-skinned, red head named John Stephens on American Idol. Surely that wasn’t his motive. Anyway, I like John Legend. E has some beef with him, though, as every time he hears me listening to Mr.Legend, he goes off on how anyone can sound like that and what does that music do for me, blahblahblah. E’s musical taste? Trance and cheesy latin music. He’s not allowed to pass musical judgment on me or anyone.
Number 3 makes me feel funky. And, that’s exactly how I want to feel when I have multiple tubes entering and exiting my body.
Number 4: I like pretty much all versions of this song. I’ve mentioned the original Sam Cooke version is Gav’s favorite song. This little lady, Miss James, is surely on the rise. I love her voice.
Number 5: Sometimes I like a song that reminds me of someone good. And, that’s what this one does for me. It’s not necessarily uplifting, but the person it brings to mind was a good one.
Number 6: Awesome brother P had sent me a Feist cd, but I never got around to listening to it until after this song went all commercial crazy. Gab loves dancing to it, although I worry about the sequence of her number learning (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10? I’ll have to work on straightening out that kink when the time comes).
Number 7: Another library find. I’d always heard of Martin Sexton but didn’t get into him until this past Fall when I checked out this particular cd. I had always thought he would just be too “white” for my taste. I realize that sounds horrible. But, I never shared much in common with the folks who were big Sexton fans. Alas, I was wrong. This dude can be quite soulful. And, this is one of those “Ahh, how sweet” songs.
Number 8: I don’t remember how I stumbled upon this one. I think she’s also a popular one for commercials. (or perhaps it’s just someone that sounds like her) Whatever the case, I like it, so there.
Number 9: I know, I know. The Joaquin Phoenix/Reese Witherspoon version??? Am I psychotic? Why, yes, thank you for asking. Would you like a drink?
Number 10: Again, I obviously like this song. Has anyone seen the Dylan movie? I’m curious about it. I don’t know that I could get past seeing Kate Blanchett instead of Bob Dylan.
Number 11: I’ve always liked this song. And, man, the times in my life, they are a-changin’. (yes, i know the song is NOT about giving birth to twins)
Number 12: For whatever reason, this is just a fun song for me. I’ve always enjoyed singing it, even as a six-year old kid when I originally heard it on the radio. I guess I took it literally as a hot child in the city…somebody get this kid a cold soda and some ice cream to cool her down.
Number 13: Ahh, this is just a beautiful song. Enough said.
Number 14: Another fun song. For me.
Number 15: You know I have to have Prince on the list. I put the live version of this fun little diddy on the list b/c a) I like it, obviously and b) it reminds me of this show I saw with Brutha Ministah in New Orleans. After the show, I forced B.M. (brutha ministah, not bowel movement) to hang out on the couches in the Ritz hotel lobby with me, waiting to see what sort of pajamas cute, adorable Prince decided to wear on the overnight ride to Houston. (i think that’s where they were headed next) Wherever they were going, it would be an all-night ride on the tour bus. He eventually came down with a kickin’ burgundy with white polka dots pajama set and matching head-wrap. Hehehe, I was strategically positioned behind a large fern, but B.M. was out in the wide open and apparently made direct eye contact with Prince who gave him a very sharp ‘Go to hell for waiting to see me in my pajamas’ look. Boy, was he pissed at me. “dee, I work in this industry. I can’t be stalking musicians in hotel lobbies.” Ohhh, yes, you can.
Anyway, I like this song and that little episode makes me laugh.
So, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.

Waaay more variety then my poor boys. Oldest was stuck listening to non stop Journey while in utero (hey, it was 1985 and I was 20!) and has this mysterious affinity for Steve Perry’s voice now
Youngest was brainwashed on his way home from the hospital with Jimmy Buffet – Cheeseburger in Paradise being the Official First Song for him. And yet – he prefers hamburgers – go figure!

hey, good luck on the baby front. having never birthed twins, i don’t know personally what to expect. other than two babies, i mean
some cool song selections. i admit, i heart ELO (ooh, i did that publicly!), and “mr. blue sky” reminds me of when i was about 13 or so and heavily obsessed. “hot child in the city” — HAHAHAHAHAHAH. haven’t thought of that one in awhile.
and “a case of you” is also one of my faves, though people who know me awhile know that when i start getting heavily into joni, i am usually getting depressed. especially when the entire “blue” album comes on.
i watched one of those VH1 specials while BC was in utero, a beach boys special. and BC, who had not kicked much before, went nuts! since then, she really loves the beach boys, so i have always wondered about the correlation.
::humming: 1 2 3 4 for the rest of the day, thanks very much::

Grandy: lol, thanks for your pig latin legal advice there.
tpgoddess: Ah, great. While wreke is stuck humming 1 2 3 4 the rest of the day, you’ve now hit me with “Don’t stop believin’…Hold on to the feelin’…” Journey’s not so bad.
wreke: Glad to know I outed you, you little ELO freak!
Oh yeh, the whole “Blue” album is great but requires some heavy mood lifters to keep you from sinking to the bottom of the lake.
Yeh, I totally ruined the whole playing Mozart to the babies in utero theory. Gav got a lot of Stevie Wonder in the womb and loves the guy now. I wonder if classical music really makes ‘em smarter. Guess we’ll never know.
Oh, yeh, today’s tpgoddess’s birthday! Happy Birthday, tp!!!
